Scales

May 24, 2010 by seanmcgrew

If you are going into 8th grade then it is time for you to learn all 12 scales.  Scales are easy if you know this trick.  All related scales are just inverted…if the note was flat then it becomes natural – if the note was natural it becomes sharp.

example: in the key of Ab you have 4 flats…A,B,D and E.  In the key of A the flats become natural and the notes that were natural become sharp…so A has 3 sharps…C,F and G.

Every group of scales work this way…try it!  If you have any questions please leave a comment.

Once you know your scales please play them in this order: C F Bb Eb Ab Db Gb B E A D G
